GET TO KNOW JESSICA
I'm a freelance writer covering beauty, fashion and wellness for outlets like Forbes.com, Harper's Bazaar, Elle, Allure and more. I am currently based in Los Angeles, California, but have lived and worked in cities like New York, NY, and Paris, France.
My job entails testing treatments and products (yes, this means getting lots of facials!), interviewing and learning from industry talent and experts, attending industry events both near and far—then hunkering down in solitude to get in the right mental space to write.
I would say that my main passions are skincare and aesthetics, all things wellness (I am a big-time Virgo), animal welfare and international travel. I actually hope to move abroad again soon with my dog, Delilah.
Q: FAVORITE @ANFISASKIN PRODUCT?
JO: I first fell in love with the ÂN-BALM (originally called LILOU), which I used to "slug" as a last step in my skincare and wrote about for Allure. These days, I am absolutely smitten with the ÂN-GLOSS Ceramide Lip Treatment. The smell of the new Berry Crumble shade actually reminds me of fruit roll ups! It also makes an amazing gift; recipients always love it.
Q: TOP 3 RIDE OR DIE SKINCARE PRODUCTS?
JO: BioJuve Living Biome Essentials Duo: After an aggressive laser caused my skin to develop persistent dermatitis, nothing (even prescriptions) could get it under control until I found this serum. In five days, my skin was clear again and I haven't stopped using it since. It completely replaced vitamin C and retinol in my regimen.
Orveda Eye Unveiler 422: This is my absolute favorite eye cream. It contains a potent antioxidant called Thermus Thermophilus and ceramides to fortify the skin barrier function of the delicate under-eye. A fun fact is that I met the co-founder of Orveda early in my career and, over time, have watched as her predictions for the industry came true! She's brilliant.
Vie De Mer Anti-Aging SPF 50 Sunblock: My good friend, celebrity facialist Natalie Aguilar, recommended this sunscreen to me and I fell in love. It has one of the best textures for sunscreen ever.
Q: FAVORITE SKINCARE STEP, AND WHY?
JO: Serum. I have always loved the feeling of applying a "corrective" step. The serums I reach for now tend to be anti-inflammatory and supportive of the microbiome—either BioJuve, which deposits a beneficial strain of bacteria on the skin, or SIV.
Q: HOW DO YOU INCORPORATE @ANFISASKIN PRODUCTS INTO YOUR ROUTINE?
JO: I have always had dry lips so applying ÂN-GLOSS consistently in my regimen is key. Plus, I love keeping a gloss in my purse for applications throughout the day.
Q: ARE THERE ANY UNCONVENTIONAL BEAUTY SECRETS YOU SWEAR BY?
JO: Protecting the microbiome. Incorporating tons of bodily detox and liver support, from castor oil packs to regular lymphatic drainage massage for the body. HBOT. And this is not unconventional, but I'm pretty obsessed with the sculpting and contouring effects of facial massage and lymphatic drainage.
Q: HOW DO YOU STAY UP-TO-DATE ON NEW BRANDS, PRODUCTS, AND TREATMENTS?
JO: Well, it's my job! My network, events and personal research help to keep me in the loop. My e-mail inbox is terrifying, but when I get through it, there's an encyclopedia's worth of industry news in there.
Q: FAVORITE BEAUTY TREATMENT WE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT?
JO: This would have to be a tie between ultra-gentle, no-downtime Aerolase sessions and the DMK Enzyme Masks, which I would do weekly for the rest of my life if I could!
Q: WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT WORKING IN THE BEAUTY AND WELLNESS SPACE?
JO: The connections I make with people with similar passions are by far the best part of my job. Some of my best friends are makeup artists, facialists, doctors, and scientists! It's an industry where you can enjoy the fun and transformational side of cosmetics and aesthetics, but you can also learn a ton about the health and wellness of the mind, body, and skin.
